Win of the Week

"We may be apart, but we are still together." I don't know who started this but it is so true.  Please take a moment and bring us together by sharing your 'Win of the Week'.  Share a student sucess story where something you did really helped them make a winning decision, or share some area where you felt  your own win.  I look forward to hearing from you all.

Asking for one vs. Earning one

Hi all!  Let's talk about personally developed inquiries/leads... can you share some examples of when you earned a PDI? Please include details of how you asked/when it occured in the process etc. I feel like there is a difference between just asking for one and earning one but I'd love to hear your thoughts too.

Getting a hold of your students?

What have you found that has been working to get a hold of your students?  Do you have effective text messaging strategies?  Or are emails engaging students right now?  Or do you feel like you have a voicemail that seems to be getting responses right now?  What about interactive technology (i.e. FaceTime/Web Chat/Skype/etc.)?  What seems to be working well for your institution right now? And to piggy back off that question, what time of day seems to be working well with making connections?  Today's student is definitely different than it was even 5 years ago, and technology ...

VAK in the age of COVID-19

One of the most impactful exercises that we facilitate in EnrollMatch training is the VAK exercise, where we break up into teams and and observe the eye movements of "prospective students" to determine their dominant trait in the way that they perceive the world. Being that many schools and admissions departments are remote and sometimes not able to see their prospective students faces, what VERBAL cues do you look for now (more than ever) to help you determine whether your students are visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learners?

Will Remote/Virtual Admissions Become Popular?

So what do you think? Many of you who work with online students know the virtual interview has been effective for decades, but what about the rest of you? Now that you've had some practice (and experienced student reactions), what are you seeing?

Are your students ZOOM-ing in?

I have a question for those of you who use ZOOM or ZOOM-like video interface techniques with your students in the interview process, are your students comfortable with joining with their camera?  I know I feel comfortable using my camera and I hope students use theirs because seeing them helps with the discovery process but are some people avoiding it?  I'd love to hear how some of you encourage students to turn on the camera.

Exploration and Informed Assessment

Although the environment we interact with prospective students may have changed as a result of COVID-19, the manner in which we interact with them has not. One of the most essential components of the SEA is the meaningful exploration that you do with each student in order to determine both their true motivation for change and their best fit within your educational framework. What are your "go to" methods as learned within the SEA framework for doing this effectively with as many of your future students as possible? Can't wait to hear your responses!     ...

Working from Home

While we are all attempting to adapt to the changes, and let's be honest, the challenges that COVID-19 has brought to our lives, I thought it could be beneficial to share some of my tips of working out of a home office.  Some of you maybe transitioning to working from home for the first time, and there are others who do this regularly, so let's learn from each other as some of us are not only working but also navigating around children/elearning/spouses becoming coworkers.  Stay organized.  Google calendar is a great tool to help remind me ...

Learn from our Setbacks!

Our attitudes are influential, especially for those of us who are student facing.  And that means, that we can't let setbacks back bog us down.  Instead we should be learning from those setbacks.  Rather than feeling bad if we have fallen short, look back at the situation.  Think about your actions to see if there was anything that we could have done better.  How can we improve our performances to achieve better results?   We have all been there.  I have definitely fallen short as an admissions professional in the past.  Let me give you an example, I ...

How are you handling remote/virtual admissions?

Given many campuses have closed down and prospective students can't visit, we asked 275 career college leaders how they were working with prospective students given the current environment. The results may surprise you. 🤫 30% - On-campus visits  82% - Phone visits  53% - Virtual Meetings/Screen Sharing  20% - Automated Admissions/Advising    6% - Nothing  🔹On Campus Visits (30%)-certain states allow colleges to remain open under their (and legal's) definition of essential services  🔹Phone Visits (82%)-the most popular shift has been to meet with students via phone. The effectiveness has pros & cons. ...

Personally Developed Inquiries (Referrals)

Now is the time of year where we tend to see a lag in inquiries. Those who may have missed the big Fall push may now be focused on the holidays and have written school off as a "New Year's Resolution". This may make meeting Q4 goals difficult, but it is also a great time to look at ways of developing your own pipeline. What are some techniques you and your teams use to develop PDIs?
