Share your Space!

Some of us might have a home office right now, some of us might be going into an office, either way, your space represents you. So what are things that help you be productive in your space? What are some things that help you maintain a positive attitude or stay calm? For years, I was constantly moving around my house to find the most lighting, the area that was most quiet, and the area that kids would stay out of, but it just didn't work for me anymore. I hated moving around all day long. So in the fall of last year, I officially made my office and I no longer have to move around. My computer backs up to a window so I can see outside and nature calms me, so that keeps me sane on busy days. I also just recently got a laptop stand and it is a game changer for my back! I'd love to hear from you about the little things that you keep in your office to help you focused on productivity and maybe we can all pick up an idea or two!

Your space sounds amazing! Mine also has windows to let in the sunshine.  Although this doesn't work well for my background when on video calls, it certainly helps my spirits!

I also have two 3 year old Labradoodles who keep me company!  :)

My husband and I voted our fur baby as employee of the year for 2020. LOL

I have currently worked from home for the last month and I am in the stage you first spoke of- Moving spaces! If the weather permits, I like to work on the front porch for fresh air and sun. It makes me happier than being inside all day. If my only option is to work inside, I am near the window with light music playing in the background. As nice as this sounds, I prefer to be back in the office around my colleagues and meeting students face-to-face. The day goes by much faster and I thrive off of the interaction.

Thanks for sharing Sophia!  Working on the porch is sometimes just so refreshing, isn't it?

I absolutely understand what you are saying about missing the office life. I think some people love the home office vibes, and others, like yourself miss that daily office interactions.  My husband and I have both worked from home for about 4 years now and love it but I think we have totally gotten used to it, and have a family routine.

Regardless of where you work I think it is great that you have figured out what works best for you. Our offices (in-person and home) should be an extension of ourselves.

Hi Beatriz!  Good to know about the headphones, which specific brand/model do you use? I am always in the market for saving sanity and my marriage LOL!!

I love that you have a few different stations depending on your needs for that day or for that meeting. It takes a great deal of self-awareness to know that even though the window view is nice, it might not be productive, so good for you!

    Thanks for sharing.
